Culture Counts! Know Before You Go International as a Grant Writer (Maura Harrington)

While we may all be well-trained in the art of grant writing, do we understand how our own cultural biases, perspectives, and habits impact the proposals we write? Are we aware of how others view us Americans and do we understand how that knowledge may, or may not impact our international proposal development work? This session highlights some of the strengths-- and perceived weaknesses-- we American grant writers bring to the international table and what we can do about them to be successful on any international proposal team.

Maura Harrington, GPC, is a seasoned grant professional with more than 20 years of non-profit development experience. She worked overseas in the Former Soviet Union for more than ten years in a variety of non-profit positions in the 1990s and early 2000’s and for the past 15 years she has worked as a professional grant writer, trainer, and career coach. Maura is a Grant Professional Certified and GPA-approved Trainer. She has four children, and five grandchildren and is happily married to the love of her life!
